Andrew Goodwin Research

Andrew Goodwin's Theory
Andrew Goodwin wrote a book called 'Dancing in the Distraction Factory'

He was interested in visual language and imagery, he wondered whether music videos are a reflection of the society which we live in. Because of the vivid representation of gender and power relations within music videos.
He studied hundreds of music videos before he wrote his book and came up with some key codes and conventions...

Andrew Goodwin identifies 5 key aspects which define music videos:

  1. Thought Beats -Seeing the Sound (If a film is about a certain place it may be filmed in that place, everything in the video becomes the essence of he song)
  2. Narrative and Performance
  3. The Star Image (Promoting the image of the star)
  4. Relation of Visuals to Song (seeing exactly what the performer is singing about)
  5. Technical Aspects of Music Video

Initial ideas for my music video.

  • Beach scenes
  • Filters used on my footage
  • Kinetic editing
  • Quite a happy theme
  • Footage from band performances
  • Footage from trips and outings
Going to film some footage through the summer to get the best outcome for my music video. The previous year I studied A2 I couldn't get my music video to look how I wanted because I wanted it to be quite summery and full of life, but it was winter time.

Contact with band to use their track.

Emails to a band member about use of their tracks.
Although this is from a previous year of A2 I still want to use the same song, I just have fresh ideas.
